Facebook And Google Track What Porn You Watch, Even In Cognito

Porn? Who’s watching porn? Well according to the internet if you have, Facebook and Google know about it.

Now before you set your laptop on fire, don’t worry, I mean setting your laptop on fire probably won’t cover your tracks anyway. Your internet history is permanently stored in the ethers of the internet.

Look, I realize saying that might not have helped matters, what with your racing heart rate and sweaty palms. Relax, everyone watches porn. You’re not about to get arrested and your mom isn’t going to find out.

Imagine if Google and Facebook blackmailed everyone with the threat they would tell their moms what porn they were watching.

Now that’s some Black Mirror stuff.

Here’s what you need to know…

Incognito settings will not save you one bit.

See, hiding your browsing history, it turns out, might well stop whoever else goes on your laptop seeing what you’ve been watching but it doesn’t stop third parties getting their hands on the data.

Researchers from Microsoft, Carnegie Mellon, and the University of Pennsylvania analyzed 22,484 pornography sites to determine how many of them had trackers.

These trackers are third parties that track who is watching what.

The study found that out of all the porn sites analyzed, 74% had trackers.

Google’s tracker was visible on 5,396 sites, and Facebook’s tracker was on 2,248 sites.

Other people don’t seem to mind a darn bit.

I guess if you’ve got nothing to hide, there’s nothing to worry about… right?
