In one of the most flagrant displays of Karen-ing caught on camera, a white woman in Central Park attempted to have an African American man arrested for ‘threatening her life’, when he was simply asking her to put her dog on a leash.
The video, which has rapidly gone viral, shows the woman, now identified as Amy Cooper reacting to the man’s request to leash her dog, as is required in the area of Central Park they were in.
However, she then makes an emergency phone call to the police, quickly becoming hysterical, informing the authorities that “an African American man is threatening my life.”
The man, who’s sister Melody Cooper shared the video on Twitter, encourages the woman to make the call and films the entire situation unfolding, as she also completely mistreats her dog, almost strangling it in the process of lying to the cops about what is actually unfolding.
By law, dogs are required to be on a leash in Central Park, which is all the man had informed the woman about before she decided the only course of action was an attempt to have him arrested.
The NYPD did dispatch two officers to the scene, but by the time they arrived both parties had left, so no arrests or cautions were dished out.
Following the video surfacing on social media, Amy Cooper has been identified and has had to give up her rescue pup to The Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue, Inc. — where she reportedly adopted the dog in March 2018.
At least some common sense has prevailed in all of this.
