Huge Black Lives Matter Street Mural Painted By White House

A huge Black Lives Matter street mural has been painted by activists on the road leading up to the White House.

In bright yellow paint, the message covers the whole of 16th Street with each huge letter being around 35ft long.

The project which began this morning is being carried out by activists with the full support of Mayor Muriel Bowser.

The Washington D.C. chapter of Black Lives Matter tweeted:

This is performative and a distraction from her active counter organizing to our demands to decrease the police budget and invest in the community. Black Lives Matter means Defund the police.

The Black Lives Matter movement has had a global resurgence in the past few weeks following the tragic death of George Floyd and many more.

Floyd was killed in the hands of the Minneapolis Police.

He repeatedly told officers that he could not breathe and that he did not want to die, however he was given no relief.

Following his death, and the subsequent video of his killing which went viral, protests have sparked across the globe.
