‘Britain’s first gay dads’ have split after one of them started dating their daughter’s ex-boyfriend half his age.
Barrie Drewitt-Barlow confessed to breaking off his relationship with Tony Drewitt-Barlow and opened up about their new living arrangement in a £6million mansion in Florida.
Barrie and Tony were dubbed as Britain’s first gay fathers in 1999 when a surrogate gave birth to their twins, Saffron and Aspen.
They were the first same-sex couple to be named on a birth certificate as parents and their relationship was one of the most documented in Britain.
However, after 32 long years together, Barrie and Tony went their separate ways after Barrie admitted to falling in love with 25-year-old Scott Hutchison, Saffron’s ex-boyfriend.
Barrie insisted he was “not having a mid-life crisis” and despite the age gap between him and Scott it ‘felt right’.
He said: “I’ve fallen in love with Scott and he has done the same. I feel stupid at my age to have these feelings about someone other than Tony and half my age.
“But when you know something is right, it’s right. We have not made definite plans but I would like to marry Scott.
“I’m not having a mid-life crisis – if I was having one I’d buy myself a Porsche 911. This is the real deal.”
He added: “I’m not sure what the big deal is myself, things don’t always work out in relationships for one reason or another, but Tony and I are both very happy about the way things have turned out.
“Regardless of the negativity regarding our relationship, we will both be there for each other through this very difficult time.”
