Wrestling legend Triple H has apologized for making a controversial joke about former wrestler Paige, and more specifically, her sex life.
The wrestler whose real name is Paul Michael Levesque also works as executive vice president of talent, live events and creative at the WWE.
As he is a generally well respected guy in a position of power, his comments have caused quite the stir in the WWE community.
Paige, 27, from Norwich, retired due to injury in 2018, and Triple H made the comment when he was asked by a Scottish journalist whether or not he would like to see her return to the ring, along with Edge.
In response to the question, Triple H said:
I’m a fan just like everyone else. I would love to see [Edge or Paige] step into the ring and compete. More importantly than that, though, I would like to see them live long, healthy lives.
Then he ‘joked’:
You know, Edge has kids. Paige – maybe – she probably has some she doesn’t know of.
And there you have it ladies and gentlemen. The ‘joke’ which has caused such a stir.
There was an immediate backlash to the comment from the WWE community.
Nikki and Brie Bella tweeted:
We will never see the true change in equality if we just see them as storylines. Change in a company starts from the top. Our leaders help set the example.
For us women we need all the help we can get. Help with respect from our co workers and fans. We are all one. One love.
Responding to the criticism, Triple H tweeted:
I’ve reached out to @RealPaigeWWE to apologize. I made a terrible joke and I’m sorry if it offended her or anyone else.
And the rest they say is history.
