Texas Lt.Governor Says Old People Need To Risk Dying From Coronavirus To Help US Economy

So yeah, it seems like people are officially losing their minds.

Lt. Governor of Texas, Dan Patrick, has come out with quite the statement during his interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News, where he has called upon senior citizens to ignore social distancing, despite the widespread death and economic crisis that is being caused by COVID-19.

Patrick, himself a grandfather, said during the interview, “Those of us who are 70-plus, we’ll take care of ourselves, but don’t sacrifice the country. Don’t do that. Don’t ruin this great American dream.”

Presumably the great American Dream Patrick is referencing is one in which thousands upon thousands die unnecessarily. It is, however, a vision which is apparently shared by President Trump, who is reportedly keen to bring an end to social distancing after only two weeks of implementation, with panic over the economy the reason behind his way of thinking.

The response to Patrick’s comments has been, unsurprisingly, not positive.

There have been almost 50,000 Coronavirus cases confirmed in the US so far, almost half of which have occurred in New York. The current death toll, at the time of writing, stands at 588, with 295 patients already recovered from the illness.

It remains to be seen what the next steps will be from the government and how far they are willing to go to stop the spread and flatten the curve of this deadly pandemic.
