Italian Priest With Coronavirus Dies After Sacrificing Ventilator To Save Younger Person

An Italian priest has paid the ultimate sacrifice, by giving the ventilator which was keeping him alive, to a younger patient.

Friar Don Giuseppe Berardelli passed away shortly after sacrificing his ventilator to a younger patient who he hadn’t even met.

The 72-year-old was the priest for the parish of Casnigo, a small village just 40 miles north east of Milan.

His parishioners rallied around and bought him a ventilator to help him battle Coronavirus, but the priest refused to use it and instead gave it to a younger patient he did not know.

He died in hospital in Lovere, Bergamo – one of the hardest hit areas in the entire world.

An obituary claimed:

He was a priest who listened to everyone, he knew how to listen, whoever turned to him knew that he could count on his help.

The mayor of Fiorano, Clara Poli, described Berardelli as a great person.

She said:

I remember him on his old Guzzi motorbike, he loved his motorbike, and when he was seen passing by he was always cheerful and full of enthusiasm, he gave peace and joy to our communities.

He does not leave us alone, from up there he watches over us and continues to run through the clouds with his motorcycle, who knows how many projects he is doing up there, also for us.

Rest in peace Friar Don Giuseppe Berardelli.
