Here’s What Scientists Found When They Emptied The Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls is one of earth’s most naturally beautiful sights. The majesty of the six million cubic feet of tumbling water is truly something that has to be seen to be believed. But a sight that’s even more incredible? Those same falls – but without any water at all.

Well, it’s been announced that the New York State offices of parks and transportation have plans to bring about just that. They’ve submitted a plan to divert the water away from the iconic falls in order to undertake some vital repairs to the old and decrepit commuter bridges connecting the falls to the nearby town of Niagara.

And these plans have brought back memories to certain Niagara residents – of the last time the falls were drained in 1969. The stoppage was put in place to repair erosion to the battered riverbed below.

But even more interesting than the dried out falls? What was discovered beneath. Think about it – items that find themselves lost under the surface were probably never expected to see the light of day again. The creepiest discovery by far, though, was the large number of corpses. Even more frightening? One of them has never been identified to this day.

Whether the plans for the falls will go ahead is unknown – but if they do, it’s expected people will come from all around the world to walk on the riverbed. But as for what will be discovered lurking under the water this time? We’ll have to wait to find out.
