Yesterday evening, news emerged that the music legend, the legendary rock guitarist, Eddie Van Halen, has tragically died.

The rock icon was just 65 at the time of his death.

The co-founder of revolutionary band, Van Halen, died at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica surrounded by his family.

Sources claim that after a lengthy battle with throat cancer, Van Halen’s health rapidly declined in the past 72 hours.

Now his son has officially confirmed the legend’s cause of death.

Posting to Twitter, Wolfgang Van Halen, wrote:

I can’t believe I’m having to write this but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning.

He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift.

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends during this hard time.

Rest in peace.
