Social media is usually more of a negative place rather than a happy one. A lot of unwanted opinions, and an unhealthy self-obsession amongst most. It’s clear that every so often something beautiful happens on social media. This story of a son helping his dad’s business is truly one of those moments.
A new donut shop opened in Missouri City, Texas last week. Unfortunately customers were lacking during the grand opening of Billy’s Donuts. Then the son thought quickly of a way to fix the situation and saved the day with one single tweet.
“My dad is sad cause no one is coming to his new donut shop,” Billy By tweeted on Saturday. The tweet went crazy viral, racking up over 300,000 RTs and nearly 700,000 Likes.
Soon enough, everyone wanted to grab some treats from Billy’s Donuts, even people who didn’t live in Texas! Some even from over seas!
The tweet grabbed the attention of Twitter, celebrities such as actor James Woods told his two million-plus followers to help, and Casey Neistat told Billy and his nearly two million followers that he’s “on my way.”
As soon as the word got out about the donut shop, the Son and Father has ques out the door and were selling out of their donuts and kolaches, a Czech pastry that has fruits, cheese or meats inside.
Twitter even paid for everyone’s donuts until they sold out! How kind!
“You are all amazing,” Billy wrote on Twitter. “I can’t thank everyone enough for coming out and supporting local businesses. This means so much to my family.”
