Rick and Morty has faced some serious backlash following a 9/11 joke which many people have deemed truly sickening.
The tone deaf joke was made in a recent episode, more specifically, Promortyus, the seventh episode of Season 4, which aired this weekend.
The episode in particular was not wholly offensive, and was just a typical Rick and Morty classic about battling aliens.
But there was a quick gag which caused fans to go berserk online with one fan saying: ‘OMG no they didn’t!’.
I know what you’re thinking. Just what did they do?

Well, this is what happened. Upon approaching two enemy buildings that resemble New York City’s Twin Towers, Rick and Morty fly around the towers and attack a harbor instead.
Rick then says: “Honestly, I’m proud of us for not …”
Morty responds: “Totally, would have been cheap”, to which Rick adds, “Low hanging fruit. We’re better than that.”
Instead of recreating 9/11 the pair decided to replicate the Pearl Harbor attack and later joked about it.
Is Rick and Morty still doing 9/11 jokes?— Poynter_Marcsman (@poyntermarcsman) May 11, 2020
Because wow, that's so funny in 2020.
We almost did a 9/11, we went with the Pearl Harbor. We’re pretty classy.
But many fans felt the joke went too far – with 9/11 still a dark and recent nightmare for many.
What do you think?
