30,000 people have signed a petition for Netflix to remove one of their latest titles after claims that the film ‘sexualises’ young girls.
The film, Cuties, tells the story of ‘eleven-year-old Amy who starts to rebel against her conservative family’s traditions when she becomes fascinated with a free-spirited dance crew’.
But more specifically the show is about an 11-year-old Muslim girl who begins twerking… It’s easy to see why people aren’t particularly happy about it.

The award winning film’s main character, Amy, is a Senegalese Muslim girl who lives in a poor neighborhood in France.
The films writer and director, Maïmouna Doucouré, said the inspiration for the film came from seeing young girls dancing.
She said:
There were these girls onstage dressed in a really sexy fashion in short, transparent clothes. They danced in a very sexually suggestive manner. There also happened to be a number of African mothers in the audience. I was transfixed, watching with a mixture of shock and admiration. I asked myself if these young girls understood what they were doing.
While the inspiration for the film seems genuine enough, people are still absolutely furious about how it has been portrayed.

like the French version has more “kids having fun!” vibes, while the American version is just fucking…. gross.

I just found a trailer for the movie “Cuties” on Netflix and the blatant sexualization of young girls is DISGUSTING. No one wants to see their child dressed and posed like this. WHY IS NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT THIS? #cuties @netflix pic.twitter.com/a4rWey3cuj
