Chicken Run Sequel Begins Production At Aardman Animations

Lasy year, it was announced that after nearly two decades, global stop-motion smash hit, Chicken Run, was finally getting a sequel. And it seems this week, the talented team over at Aardman Animations have hit a major milestone – confirming that the movie is officially in production.

‘Chicken Run,’ Aardman’s first-ever feature film, was the epitome of many of our childhoods and remains as one of the most iconic and successful stop-motion animations of all time.

The first movie hit screens back in 2000 and opened to a hugely successful reception – garnering an eye-watering $225 million in revenue at the global box office.

The movie chronicles the journey of a group of chickens as they attempt to escape their death-laced fate at the hands of their evil farm owner.

But fans of the beloved classic were thrilled to hear that this wouldn’t be the last we saw of Fetcher, Rocky, Mr. Tweedy, Babs, Ginger, and the rest of the gang, when Aardman announced back in April 2018, that a sequel was officially confirmed.

Though details have so far been fairly scarce, the studio has this week confirmed that the upcoming movie is now in production.

Will Becher, co-director at Aardman Animation, recently opened up to Flickering Myth about the eagerly-anticipated ‘Chicken Run 2’ : “Well all I can tell you is that there were a lot of chickens being made towards the end of our film.

“We have a model-making team and, at one point, it was just full of sheep, but slowly over the course of the following weeks, it became overrun with chickens. So there is definitely an intention there and it was announced they are in pre-production on a sequel.”

The animation studio also took to Twitter to announce that ‘Chicken Run 2’ will be their next release following the forthcoming Shaun the Sheep Movie: ‘Farmageddon’ which hits screens later this year.

In terms of what the movie will shape up to look like, again, the studio appears to be keeping details very much under wraps. But, the original movie ended with the chicken gang successfully escaping the clutches of the farm and setting up a small community on an island. So, presumably, we’ll get to see their Island-habited antics.
