The wrestling world was left distraught yesterday when it was confirmed by police that the body of former WWE Superstar Shad Gaspard had washed up on Venice Beach, two days after a riptide had swept him away from his son and the rescue team who were trying to save them both.
The former Cryme Tyme member instructed the rescue team to save his 10-year-old son first, which they did successfully. However, as that was happening, a huge wave crashed down on top of Gaspard, who was never seen alive again.
Tributes immediately came pouring in from all corners of the wrestling community, with fellow talents and fans alike sharing their fondest memories of Gaspard, paying tribute to his incredible personality and ability to look after his co-workers inside the ring and out.
And one of the most touching tributes came from The Rock, who took to instagram to remember a man who some in the wrestling world knew as ‘Da Beast’.
The eight time WWE Champion captioned the picture by saying, “This one hurts. Great guy. My deepest condolences and love to Shad Gaspard’s wife, son and family. Shad drowned in the ocean, but not before instructing lifeguards to save his 10yr old son first. That’s the love of a father. This is a tough one to process. Love and light to Shad’s family. And your warrior spirit lives on through your son.”
Gaspard’s tag team partner, JTG, shared a video of a vigil that has been set up in tribute to his late friend on the beach where he was last seen alive.
Rest In Peace, Shad.
