Expert Believes There’s Secret Meaning Behind Ed Sheeran’s Baby Name

Earlier today, the world rejoiced after learning that Ed Sheeran and his wife Cherry Seaborn had welcomed their first child into the world.

The healthy baby, named Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran, was born last week, Sheeran confirmed in an Instagram post.

And the good news – both baby and mother are doing incredibly well.

But now an expert believes to know the secret meaning behind Lyra’s name.

Taking to Instagram, Sheeran wrote:

Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you… Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter – Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.

We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back.

Ed’s relationship with Cherry Seaborn is kept somewhat behind closed doors – such as when they got ‘married secretly’ last year.

Fans are delighted, however, with the news of their first baby. But they haven’t been too nice commenting on the baby’s name, specifically Antartica.

But now a so-called baby name expert has spoken out and apparently unveiled the reason behind the name.

SJ Strum, from Channelmum.com, explained how first things first, the name Lyra has its roots in Greek mythology and it means lyre, a small harp.

SJ explained:

Antarctica is a stunning name – wonderfully feminine while still cool and crisp and classy.

Ed recently took place in the One Earth charity single to raise awareness of climate change so it’s likely Antarctica references this ethics here. It’s so powerful to name a newborn after one of the most remote yet vital places on the planet.

Not actually a bad name for a musician!

Congratulations to the happy couple. We wish them all the best for the future.
