Ellen DeGeneres Addresses Toxic Workplace Claims On New Season Premiere

Following months of negative media attention, things just keep getting worse for Ellen DeGeneres.

Ellen’s been under fire after allegations of racism and intimidation on her talk show set, while her former security guard called her ‘demeaning’ to work for.

Other people online have been sharing horrific rumors about her, and in a recent BuzzFeed News article, several former staffers accused Ellen’s producers of sexual harassment and misconduct in the workplace.

Now, on her first show back, Ellen has finally addressed the allegations.

The television host stood on the stage ahead of The Ellen Show’s season premiere and apologised to her viewers.

She added that she takes responsibility ‘for what happens at my show’.

More specifically she said:

As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show, and then there was an investigation. I learned that things happened here that never should have happened.

I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected. I know that I’m in a position of privilege and power and I realise that with that comes responsibility, and I take responsibility for what happens at my show.

This is The Ellen DeGeneres Show. I am Ellen DeGeneres. My name is there, my name is there, my name is on underwear.

We have had a lot of conversations over the last few weeks about the show, our workplace, and what we want for the future. We have made the necessary changes and today we are starting a new chapter.

Do you forgive her?
