Woman Takes In 97 Stray Dogs And Saves Them All From Hurricane Dorian

Hurricane Dorian left absolute devastation in the Bahamas this week. People have had their houses, lives and happiness torn apart.

Meet Chella Phillips, an incredibly kind rescuer that’s taken in dozens of lost or abandoned pets that managed to survive the storm because of her care.

Before the storm reached the Bahamas, Chella announced that she’d opened the doors of her home to 97 homeless and abandoned dogs,
Together, they faced the hurricane and without her help, who knows what would have happened to the scared dogs.

She explained:

“Everyone here gets along and welcome the newcomers with tail wags,”

“They know they are their brothers and sisters in suffering on the streets.”

It’s no surprise that the photos of the happy pups has gone viral, being shared thousands of times.

Chella explained:

“The wind sounded like a train that wouldn’t pass, it was so loud, water was coming in through the seams on the windows and underneath the doors, the dogs were scared. I tried to play with them, sing to them, gave them every last treat just to keep their minds off all the noise of the hurricane.”

She managed to keep 97 alive and out of harms way.

Chella isn’t a stranger to helping animals in need as she manages the Voiceless Dogs of Nassau, a group dedicated to saving the island’s stray dogs.

Heartbreakingly, the storm has completely ravaged the infrastructure of the rescue operation and supplies are slowing.

Chella has launched an appeal with a donation page for those who would like to donate. More than $200,000 has been raised so far which is incredible.

She added:

“I don’t even know what to say, how to thank you,”

“Your love, words, donations are keeping me alive, giving me hope and I want you to know, that no matter how much is raised, every nickel will go to saving dogs’ lives.”
