Owner Finds A Baby Possum Clinging On To Her Dog’s Back

Seeing a small animal clinging onto you pet’s back may be a little alarming at first, but sometimes it can be a very sweet and heart-warming moment.

Sally Watkinson discovered recently a baby Australian ringtail possum holding on for dear life to her puli dog’s back. She was quite confused at first and couldn’t understand why it would do this.

She took straight to Facebook to share the incident by posting a set of pictures showing the cutest little possum hitching a ride on her dog Kato’s back.

She also revealed details about the whole thing, stating that it happened twice!

Sally amazingly found this tiny female possum sitting on one of her pets’ back. Her dogs didn’t seem to notice or mind the little marsupial.

Sally’s partner Jon spent the afternoon looking for wildlife rescue organizations to help and the dogs were eventually taken to the vet and the possum was transported to the care of wildlife rescue.

It was only a day later that Sally shared an update that it happened again.

This time, clinging for life was a baby boy, she said: “This one was annoying him a bit more as it seemed to be digging in a bit, Hugo [her other dog] was still ignoring it”

“This time, the vet nurse nearly fell off her chair when we turned up”

Sally announced that the babies are well taken care of by a wildlife carer and will be released back into the wild when they’re ready.

The couple have come to the conclusion that the poor possums were orphaned because a possum catcher took their mother.

She said:

“Possum man has not returned calls regarding what happened to the mother, therefore, no opportunity to reunite and release”

They’ve also spoken with the vet who informed them that possums like the ones they’d found usually have a litter of 2-3, so they are keeping an eye out in case there’s a third one somewhere.
