Meet Omar, The World’s Longest Maine Coon Cat

Meet Omar, the Maine Coon believed to be the world’s longest cat.

This furbaby is from Melbourne and is an internet star with an instagram full of thousands of cat fans who love keeping up with his daily doings.

Stephy Hirst, his owner, posted a picture of Omar on instagram it was soon picked up by ‘Cats of Instagram’.

Omar is an impressive 120cm (3ft 11in) measurements. Oh and he weighs a huge 14kg (31lbs).

Stephy explained:

“All of our friends want to come over and see our cat. They say ‘is that Photoshopped?’ or ‘that can’t be real’ and then they see him in the flesh.”

Amazingly.. Omar was an averagely-sized kitten. He has since grown and grown, now being able to reach door handles and the kitchen surfaces.

He eats a diet of cat food and kangaroo meat. Oh and he keeps fit on his trampoline… okay.

Stephy and her partner can’t even pick him up much due to his heavy weight.

When he goes to the vet, he travels in a dog crate.

Omar lives with two Shelties called Penny and Rafiki.

The large cat has become famous after being featured on Australian television.

Apparently ‘he hasn’t really been coping with all the attention’ and ‘he had a little bit of a meltdown this morning’ Stephy revealed.

She added:

“He’s just looking forward to napping on the trampoline, chowing down on some more kangaroo and trying to keep us awake at night.

I think he’ll be glad to go back to being a normal housecat.”
