Rescue dog Benny was caught up in Hurricane Harvey until he was rescued and adopted by his family in Washington about a year and a half ago.
Benny and his dad, Scott Ballenger, had a very close bond and were the best of friends.
Alexis Nazarino, Ballenger’s daughter, said:
“Benny was unsure of men and we don’t know his background, but he loved my dad and heard his car coming even before [Benny’s] mom did after work”
Even though Benny was a little scared of other people, he never had anything but love and trust for his dad. Ballenger and his girlfriend brought the little dog everywhere with them.
The pair loved each other huge amounts.
Ballenger was admitted to the hospital in serious condition back in august and poor Benny was worried and confused.
Benny was brought to the hospital so he could be with his dad, because that’s the only place he was truly happy.
“Benny would sniff his head and face but was really unsure what was going on”
“He would sit with dad for a few minutes here and there.”
Something changed and Benny knew just how sick his dad was and that he needed him.. from that moment he refused to leave.
Sitting with him all day, he snuggled up as close as he could be.
Heartbreakingly, Ballenger passed away the next day.
Benny somehow knew that that was his final day, and didn’t want to miss a moment with him.
Nazarino said it was “True love”.
Benny has taken the passing of his dad very hard and always looks for him everyday, even crying in the night for him to return.
His mom and the rest of Ballenger’s family have been there for him every step of the way, cuddling him whenever he’s sad.
