Meet Ryzhik, a cat who lost all his paws due to frostbite. She is believed to be the first in the world to be fitted with four new artificial limbs. How amazing.
The feline is now learning to walk again after being fitted with specially designed titanium implants.
In the city of Tomsk, Siberia, temperatures dropped to minus 40°c. The abandoned fur baby had to have all its paws amputated due to gangrene after suffering awful frostbite.
Ryzhik was found and looked after by a new owner thankfully, as usually cats found in this way are put down.
A clinic in Novosibirsk fitted the new bionic paws. They used sophisticated computer tomography and 3D modelling.
Vet Sergey Gorshkov said:
“He is definitely the first cat in the world who experienced such surgeries.
“The limbs have fully connected with the skin and bone.
“The part of the limb that goes inside the body is spongy, the bone tissue grows inside it.”
“We achieved a good result.”
Gorshkov’s clinic is pioneering new methods of helping animals in distress. We think they are doing an amazing job.
The clinic are even working on rebuilding hoofs for cattle and beaks for parrots.
